Juror:
Laura Tenekjian is
currently the assistant curator at the University of Mary Washington Galleries
in Fredericksburg. As the assistant curator, she works closely with the
director to develop exhibit ideas and present
exhibitions for the university community and general public and to care for,
research, and exhibit the UMW art collection. She also works with Mary
Washington students, training them in the practices and procedures of
museum and gallery work.
Laura graduated from the University of Mary Washington in 2007 with a BA in Art History. During her undergraduate studies, she held internships at the Children’s Museum of Virginia in Portsmouth and Gari Melchers Home and Studio at Belmont in Fredericksburg. While working at the UMW galleries, Laura has been involved in all of the exhibition planning and installation, and has worked closely with the artists involved in each exhibit. Most recent curatorial projects include Mind and Metaphor: Psychology and Symbolism in Mid Century Painting and Drawing--selections from the permanent collection, The Object: Found, Multiplied, Manipulated, a mixed media exhibition of recent work by six contemporary artists from Virginia, DC and Maryland, and the Mid Atlantic New Painting 2010 Juried Exhibition. |
